Sohon Torwet

We are the only – and many believe the best – student wind orchestra operating at the University of Turku. Our orchestra was founded in 1951 and has grown from a small group of seven to a current group of around 60. Our orchestra includes musicians from all universities and colleges in Turku.

Sohon Torwet is known throughout the country for its old Finnish dance music as well as jazz, Latin and iskelmä, with which we entertain people at corporate, community and private events. The composition of our orchestra at gigs varies depending on the nature of the event, from a small group of less than ten people to a genuine party orchestra, which is always ready for surprising program solutions. A high-quality wind music show, spiced up with student humor, vocal soloists and virtuoso instrumentalists, is an interdisciplinary and artistic experience. Our biggest annual show of strength is the concert held in the spring, where we also present our expertise in the fields of more artistic music with varying themes.

Next spring we turn 75. We'll have our concert at Turku Konserttitalo on 18th April.

Our orchestra's activities consist of regular rehearsals every Tuesday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Osakuntasali at Rehtorinpellonkatu 4-6 B. We always take on new players: the first ones based on auditions and the rest regardless... There are gigs all year round. In addition to playing, we Torwet do a lot of other things together - various clubs and traditions are an essential part of our activities. In addition, we go on a longer concert tour to a foreign or domestic destination every year.

See you!
