How to Get a Starting Package

Who can get a Starting Package?

Starting Packages are available for:

  • Exchange students at the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University who are members of their student union (TYY or ÅAS)
  • Exchange students at TUAS or Novia

You can register for a Starting Package through tyy.asio.fi. Registration opens up to 3 weeks before your arrival in Finland.

Fees

  • Total cost: €80
    • Rental fee: €35
    • Refundable deposit: €45

Payment is made through the online registration system when you enroll for the package.

How to get your package

  1. Go to tyy.asio.fi and select Starting Package.
  2. Complete the registration form and pay the fee.
  3. Collect your package from the Starting Package storage during opening hours.
  4. Bring:
    • Proof of student union membership (TYY or ÅAS), such as a payment receipt, or
    • A TUAS/Novia certificate of enrollment.

Important: Check your package

When you receive your package, please check that:

  • All items are included
  • Bedding and other items are clean
  • There are no stains or damages

If anything is missing or damaged, let us know as soon as possible. When the package is returned, its condition will be inspected. Missing items or damages that were not reported when you received the package may result in a reduced deposit refund.

For students arriving in July or August, the deadline to:

  • report any issues with the package, and
  • show proof of student union membership

is Friday, 11 September 2026.

If your tutor collects the package for you

If you arrive outside the opening hours, your tutor may pick up the package on your behalf.

Please note:

  • You must complete the online registration and payment in advance.
  • The package will only be given to your tutor if you have already registered.
  • Your tutor does not need to show your student union membership proof.
  • You must check the package yourself after receiving it and report any missing items, stains, or damages as soon as possible.

The same reporting deadline applies for students arriving in July or August: Friday, 11 September 2026.

Deposit refund

The €45 deposit will be refunded if:

  • All items are returned
  • All items are clean
  • All items are undamaged
  • The package is returned in the same condition as received

Students with an EU bank account will receive their refund by bank transfer. Please provide your bank details in the online registration form.

Students without an EU bank account will receive separate instructions on how to collect their deposit.
