TYY joins the Turku Pride parade
Join the student block at the Turku Pride Parade! Turku Pride will be celebrated on Saturday 26 August, and TYY has its own block in the parade. Sign up your organisation to join the block so that we can get a large number of students to join the march! The sign-up closes on Sunday 6 August
Instructions for organisations
Preparation
Please sign up to join the block via the link above no later than Sunday 6 August.
Choose one person who is responsible for your organisation's participation. You will enter their
information in the sign-up form, and they need to be present at the parade. It would be best if the
selected person can be on location well in advance. If it turns out that the contact person you have reported is unable to join Pride, the form response can be changed.
Wear your student overalls (or capes) and bring your organisation's flag if you wish.
Invite your members to join the block and advertise the parade on your social media.
Instructions for members
Participants do not need to sign up, buy tickets or anything else like that. All they need to do is show up and bring their overalls. It is also possible to join the parade in the middle of the march if someone can't make it to the start.
The distance is not long! However, the parade moves quite slowly, so the march has usually lasted for an hour.
Event
The parade will start gathering at the Old Great Square (Vanha Suurtori) at 11 am. We will get going at noon.
The estimated time of arrival at the Puolalanpuisto park is shortly before 1 pm.Traditionally, there have been things like speeches and stands at the park party. TYY does not have a stand or other official program at the park party.
General advice for the parade
Take everyone into consideration during the parade and walk at a calm pace; there is no need to hurry.
Give space to those who need it. Let everyone see and hear us for who we are!
Accessibility information for the parade
For safety reasons, the route of the parade will be published closer to Pride (August 26).
The route has been planned to be as accessible as possible. There are no steep ascents or descents, obstacles that are difficult to get around, narrow points, stairs or thresholds. There may be things like electric scooters and bikes along the route, but they will be removed as the parade moves along.
However, please note at least the following points:
The distance that the parade marches is about 2.6 km.
When crossing the Theatre Bridge (Teatterisilta), the parade momentarily takes on a narrower shape.
At Humalistonkatu there is a low and narrow drainpipe on the ground near Rauhankatu.
The parade will go to the Puolalanpuisto park along asphalted Taiteenpolku path on the right side. There is a gentle ascent to the park.
In Puolalanpuisto, the terrain is more uneven.
