Collegium Musicum Turku
Collegium Musicum Turku (CMT) is a student orchestra that is operating under the student union of the University of Turku, which history dates back to the year 1928 when our predecessor orchestra was founded. Collegium Musicum Turkuense was active until the beginning of 1990s and after a break, in 2004, a follower, Kampuksen kamariorkesteri, was founded. Step by step the chamber orchestra got bigger to Kampus sinfonietta and soon a symphonic orchestra, which it is today. In 2012 the orchestra changed its name to honour the original orchestra. Markus Yli-Jokipii was the conductor of CMT from 2004 to 2012, and in 2013 the baton was given to the orchestra's current conductor and artistic director, Satu Simola.
The orchestra has performed a wide selection of pieces from western classical music to dance music, tangos and movie and musical music. Smaller groups of players, such as quartets, have also performed in many different occasions, for example in weddings.
The orchestra consists mainly of students from higher education institutions in Turku, but also includes talented musicians from local upper secondary schools and working life. The exchange students and international students are also more than welcome to join the orchestra. CMT is a perfect place to maintain playing skills while studying or to balance life with music. We have concerts on average two to three times a year.
