Remember to pay your healthcare fee!
Students – Remember to pay your healthcare fee by the due date
Higher education students must pay a student healthcare fee to Kela once in each academic term. You must pay the healthcare fee for both the autumn and spring term. You can pay the fee online in the OmaKela e-service (available in Finnish and Swedish only).
You must pay the student healthcare fee if you are registered as an attending degree student at an institution of higher education. You must pay the fee even if you do not get student financial aid or if you use occupational or other health services instead of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). Even students who study part-time must also pay the fee.
The student healthcare fee is EUR 35.60 per academic term in 2025. The fee is the same for everyone.
You must pay the fee for the autumn term by 15 November if you registered as attending by 30 September. If you register as attending for the autumn term on or after 1 October, the due date is 31 December.

How to pay the student healthcare fee
- Pay the student healthcare fee well before the due date in the OmaKela e-service (available only in Finnish and Swedish). The due date for the student healthcare fee for the autumn term is 15 November.
- To pay the fee, go to Oikopolut (Shortcuts) on the front page of OmaKela and select Korkeakouluopiskelijan terveydenhoitomaksu (Healthcare fee for students in higher education).
- OmaKela will redirect you to your online bank where you can pay the fee.
- If you do not pay your student healthcare fee by the due date, Kela will send you a payment reminder. Kela will add a fixed late-payment charge of EUR 5 to healthcare fees that are paid after the due date.
- If you do not pay the fee even after being reminded to do so, Kela can deduct the fee and the late-payment charge from your study grant without separately asking for your consent. If Kela cannot deduct the healthcare fee from your study grant, the fee will go to collections.
