Apply for the Equality Committee of the University of Turku

TYY seeks one member and one deputy member as student representatives to the Equality Committee of the University for 1 Jan 2023 until 31 Dec 2023.

The Equality Committee’s task is to advance and monitor the implementation and development of equality at the University. We’re expecting active participation in the work of the committee and active communication with the member of the board for equality matters. This includes possible pre-meetings before the Committee and reporting of the meetings.

One may stand as a candidate for membership in the Faculty Council by filling out an electronic form found on TYY website (www.tyy.fi) by Monday, 28 Nov 2022. After the application period ends, the Specialist for Social Affairs will prepare a proposal for the elected to the Board of the Student Union.

In the election of student representatives to the Equality Council attention will be paid, for example:

  • on motivation and commitment to the task
  • from previous experience from associations, from the administration of higher education institutions, and from interest promotion
  • a balanced representation of faculties, departments or subjects and
  • balanced gender distribution in the organ.

We expect good language skills in Finnish both written or spoken (native language or B1 level)

According to TYY’s regulation, people with the right to complete a lower university degree, higher university degree, licentiate or doctoral degree, specialist degree in medicine or in dental science in the University of Turku are eligible for application. The eligible applicants must also be registered as present in the university. People who have full-time employment of at least twelve months at the university are not eligible to apply. The limit of full-time employment is considered to be 30 hours per week.

According to TYY's Regulation on the election of student representatives, the number of posts of student representatives in the administration is limited to three posts per person. The limitation does not apply to internal working groups of faculties or departments. This entry is intended to ensure a balanced distribution of the posts of student representatives in the administration.
