The sTYYlish Opening Carnival has opened the autumn season for students

The Student Union of the University of Turku welcomed students to the campus with the sTYYlish Opening Carnival, which was held on 2 September 2025. The carnival brought together the entire university community and offered the opportunity to get to know more than a hundred organisations, TYY's partners and the university's services.

Rector Marjo Kaartinen and TYY's Board Chair Josefina Tuomala welcomed the students to the campus. Both emphasized the importance of community, diversity and well-being in student life in their speeches.

In addition, the Teacher of the Year and Instructors of the Year were traditionally awarded at the event.

The Teacher of the Year award went to Minna-Kaarina Wuorela, a teaching nurse from the Faculty of Medicine. Wuorela is one of the key developers and implementers of simulation teaching at the Faculty of Medicine. The justification for the award states that Wuorela's teaching is always learning-oriented and student-centered.

Two Instructor of the Year awards were awarded this year. Associate Professor Nora Fagerholm from the Department of Geography and Geology is praised for her respectful supervision, which openly gives space to the supervisee's thoughts, wishes, and life situation.

Professor Pekka Lintunen from the English Language Department was awarded for significant supervision work that has supported students in advancing their studies, theses, and career paths.
