On 18 February 2009, the chairpersons, board chairs, and secretaries general of the Student Union of the University of Turku and the Student Union of the Turku School of Economics signed a merger agreement. The merger of the student unions was a result of the merger between the University of Turku and the Turku School of Economics.
The background to the merger was the new Universities Act that came into force in 2010, which led to the University of Turku and the Turku School of Economics merging into the new University of Turku.
As a result of the student union merger, a new and stronger community was formed. The official anniversary of the merger is celebrated annually on 18 February.
