TYY has cooperated in Huussi Ry's development cooperation project in Zambia. TYY is one of the project's Finnish partners. We and the media have received the unfortunate information that there have been ambiguities in the use of the project's funds during this year.
Huussi has informed on the matter as follows:
"On September 20, 2023, ambiguities came to light regarding the use of Käymäläseura Huussi ry's development cooperation project funds. On 22 September 2023, the board of the association filed a criminal complaint regarding ambiguities in the use of money in Zambia's dry sanitation program. The ambiguities are related to exceeding the project's annual budget, non-compliance with operating instructions, and exceeding the authority of an individual Finnish project manager. The board has taken action as soon as the matter has become apparent. The project manager's employment has been terminated. The board continues active work to clarify the overall picture. Due to the situation, the association's financial situation has significantly weakened and future operational possibilities are uncertain. For the rest of the year, our office will be available to a limited extent."
TYY has collected funds for Huussi Ry and also donated part of the 0.7 to the project. We have asked Huussi for more information about the situation and TYY's payments to Huussi Ry have been put on hold until the association has been able to clarify the situation.
