Apply to the University Board fo the years 2024-2025

The University Board is the highest decision-making organ of the university. The University Collegiate Council decides for each term the number of members in the University Board and the duration of the term of the board and its members.The term of the Board is from 1 Jan 2022 until 31 Dec 2025 and the Board includes two student representatives. The term of the Board is divided into two two-year terms for the part of student representatives.

As the highest executive organ of the university, the Board decides on the main goals and strategy of the university, elects the rector, decides on the framework of financial resources of the university and prepares the annual financial statement, adopts the rules and regulations of the university, decides the organisational structure, suggest changes to the educational responsibilities and decides on the number of students to be admitted to the university. (University Act, Section 14, Regulations of the University of Turku, Section 12)

 

The application period for the student member positions begins on Monday, 18 September 2023. You can stand as a candidate for membership by sending a free-form application and a CV by filling in an electronic form found on the TYY website (www.tyy.fi) by Tuesday, 17 October 2023 at 23:59. After the application period The Student Union's Election Committee will convene to consider the applications and some of the applicants will be invited for an interview. The interviews are planned to be organised during week 43. The Student Union's Election Committee will prepare a proposal based on the interviews and applications to TYY's Executive Board on who is to be elected.  TYY’s Executive Board will make the decision on the student representatives in November.

When selecting the student members to the University Board, attention is paid to factors such as previous experience in the administration of higher education institutions, motivation and commitment to the task, as well as on initiative and performance capabilities and the knowledge of the finances of the University of Turku. Attention will also be paid on the balanced gender distribution in the organ. Regular reporting for the Student Union is required from the student representatives.

According to TYY's regulation on the election of student representatives, eligibility is limited to individuals with the right to complete a bachelor's degree, master's degree, licentiate degree, or doctoral degree, or a specialist degree in medicine or in dentistry at the University of Turku.  In addition, a prerequisite for eligibility is that the student has registered as attending. However, persons who are full-time employees of the university as defined by the University Regulation on Elections are not eligible.

According to the aforementioned TYY regulation, the number of student representative posts in the university's administration is limited to three posts per person. This entry is intended to ensure a balanced distribution of the posts.
