TYY Student Union Council election 2019
The Student Union of the University of Turku will organise a Student Union Council election from 1 to 6 Nov 2019. The election will elect 41 representatives among the members eligible to stand as candidates to the Student Union Council of the University of Turku, utilising the highest decision-making power in the Student Union. The two-year term of the Student Union Council will begin in January 2020. Electronic voting system will be used in the election.
The elected Student Union Council and term
The 41 regular members and their deputies will be elected to the Student Union Council of the University of Turku in accordance with the election rules approved by the TYY Student Union Council. The term of office of the elected Student Union Council will begin in January 2020 and last until the end of the year 2021.
Voting is open from 1 Nov 2019 at 10.00 am to 6 Nov 2019 at 5.00 pm.
The election is organised through an electronic voting system, which one signs in with a personal identification. The link to the voting address will be available throughout the voting period at TYY website at www.tyy.fi/en/student-union/student-union-council-elections-2019.
Right to vote, eligibility to stand as a candidate and voting
Those eligible to vote and to stand as candidates are all students registered as present at the University of Turku who are TYY members. Those ineligible to vote include permanent employees of the Student Union and the people in leading positions in the companies of the Student Union. Online voting system will verify the right to vote in the electoral roll. Each person entitled to vote may use one vote in the elections. The vote shall be used personally.
The electoral roll shall be published at the latest on Friday 4 Oct 2019 at 4.00 pm on the official bulletin board of TYY. Those not in the electoral roll but fulfilling the voting requirements shall register themselves to the Secretary of the Central Election Committee, if they want to be registered in the electoral roll.
Standing in the elections
A person can stand in the elections by submitting a declaration of candidature signed and filled with correct information to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Friday, 11 Oct 2019 at 12.00. The declaration of candidature can also be submitted scanned and signed by email to email@example.com.
Forming an electoral coalition
Two or more candidates are entitled to form a coalition. One coalition cannot include more than 82 candidates. A coalition is formed by submitting a founding document for a coalition signed and filled with correct information to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Friday, 11 Oct 2019 at 12.00.
Establishment of an electoral alliance
Coalitions and individual candidates may form an electoral alliance. An electoral alliance is formed by submitting a founding document for an electoral alliance signed and filled with correct information to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Friday, 11 Oct 2019 at 12.00.
List of candidates
The list of candidates will be published on the TYY bulletin board by Friday 18 Oct 2019 at 4 pm.
Election advertising is prescribed in the ethical guidelines approved by the Central Election Committee.
Publication of the election result
The unofficial election result will be published on 6 Nov 2019 after the election has ended. The official result will be published at the latest on 20 Nov 2019 on the official bulletin board of TYY.

The election forms (declaration of a candidature, founding document for a coalition, agreement to form an electoral alliance), ethical guidelines and election rules of the Student Union Council election are available at https://www.tyy.fi/en/student-union/student-union-council-elections-2019/documents. Election forms are also available at TYY Office. A written document fulfilling the requirements of the election rules is valid, even if not filled in the form drafted by the Central Election Committee.
