TYY Student Union Council elections 2017
The Student Union of the University of Turku organises Student Union Council elections from 1 to 8 Nov 2017. In the Student Union Council elections, 41 representatives from the Student Union members that are eligible to stand as a candidate will be elected in the University of Turku Student Union Council, which uses the highest decision-making power in the Student Union. The two-year term of the Student Union Council begins in January 2018. Electronic voting system is used in the elections.
The elected Student Union Council and term
The 41 regular members and their deputies will be elected for the Student Union Council of the University of Turku in accordance with the Election Rules approved by the TYY Student Union Council. The term of office of the elected Student Union Council will begin in January 2018 and last until the end of the year 2019.
During the election days, voting is possible during the period from 1 Nov 2017 at 10.00 am to 8 Nov 2017 at 4.00 pm.
Online voting system will be used in the elections, and personal id is used to log in. Link to the voting page will be found at TYY's website during the entire voting, at www.tyy.fi/council_elections.
Right to vote, eligibility to stand as a candidate and voting
Each student of the University of Turku registered as attending and who is a member of TYY has the right to vote and is eligible to stand as a candidate, except for the regular staff of the Student Union and people in leading positions in the companies of the Student Union. Online voting system will verify the right to vote from the list of voters. Each person entitled to vote may use one vote in the elections. The vote shall be used personally.
List of voters
The list of voters will be published by Monday, 2 Oct 2017 4.00 pm on the official bulletin board of TYY. Those not in the list of voters but fulfilling the voting requirements shall register themselves to the Secretary of the Central Election Committee, if they want to be registered in the list of voters.
Standing as a candidate
A person can stand in the elections by submitting a correctly filled and signed declaration of candidature confirmed by the Central Election Committee to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017 at 12.00.
Founding an electoral coalition
Two or more candidates shall be entitled to form an electoral coalition. One coalition cannot include more than 82 candidates. An electoral coalition is formed by submitting a correctly filled and signed founding document for a coalition confirmed by the Central Election Committee to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtoripellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017 at 12.00.
Founding an electoral alliance
Coalitions and individual candidates may form an electoral alliance. An electoral alliance is formed by submitting a correctly filled and signed founding document for an alliance confirmed by the Central Election Committee to the TYY Office in the Student House A, ground floor (Rehtoripellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) by Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017 at 12.00.
List of candidates
The list of candidates will be published on the TYY bulletin board on 16 Oct 2017 by 4.00 pm.
Election advertising is prescribed in the Ethical Guidelines approved by the Central Election Committee.
Publication of the election result
An unofficial election result is sought to be published on 8 Nov 2017 as soon as possible after the end of the elections. The official result will be published, at the latest, on 22 Nov 2017 on the official bulletin board of TYY.

Election forms (declaration of candidature, founding document for a coalition and agreement to form an electoral alliance), Ethical Guidelines and the Election Rules can be found at the TYY website at www.tyy.fi/council_elections. Election forms are also available at TYY Office. Written form fulfilling the requirements of the Election Rules is valid, even though it was not made on the blank drafted by the Central Election Committee.
