Welcome to Turku!

The Student Union of the University of Turku (TYY) would like to welcome you to Turku and to the University of Turku. We are happy to have you here and we wish to meet you at the Orientation Course!

How to join the Student Union?

► Exchange Students: The membership is voluntary but highly recommended. You can get the invoice in the Student Centre Disco/ via e-mail. 

► Degree Students (including double-degree students): The membership fee is mandatory. You will get information about the membership fee during the summer via e-mail.

Please note that we do not send you a confirmation e-mail after receiving your payment. If you have used the correct account number your payment will eventually arrive on our bank account. However, it is always a good idea to have the student union membership fee receipt with you until your student card has arrived.

Yellow Light Stage of University’s Traffic Light Model for Coronavirus Situation in Force – Contact Teaching Organised as Much as Possible in Autumn

The traffic light model for the coronavirus situation defines the level of safety measures at the University of Turku. At the moment, the University is on the yellow light stage of the coronavirus traffic light model on all its campuses.

The coronavirus management team of the University of Turku has decided that the worsened coronavirus epidemic requires transfer from the green light stage to the yellow light stage on the University’s Turku, Rauma and Pori campuses. At the same time, the coronavirus management team checked the contents of the University’s the coronavirus traffic light model for the coronavirus situation and renewed especially the sections related to contact teaching, remote work, and restrictions on the number of people.

Unnecessary close contacts must be avoided and face masks are always used in the University’s facilities, unless the person is alone in the space.

University’s Traffic Light Model for Coronavirus Situation

Updated corona guidelines have been published

Updated on 18 August 2021. We are now in yellow time. 

TYY's corona guidelines consist of:

  • Trafficlight model on what instructions are being followed at the moment (red/yellow/green)
  • An instruction on how to organise and attend events safely (these must be followed at all times)

TYY's guidelines are based on:

  • Discussion with the health authorities of campus cities
  • The guidelines of the hospital district and regulations of regional state administrative agency

We have categorised different situations with color codes. Currently, the yellow time guidelines will be followed.

Virtual Get together -event for the exchange students

23.08.2021 - 16:00

International Office is organizing a virtual Get together -event for the exchange students on Monday 23 August at 4pm Finnish time (UTC+3). In our virtual room in Wonder me, you have a possibility to get contact with other exchange students before the Orientation. Maybe you can find others to come together to the orientation sessions! In addition, if you can’t join the orientation physically (online exchange/on quarantine), in Wonder me you can create contacts with your peers.

In, you will create your own avatar bubble. By moving your bubble, you can join in any chats with others, either one-and-one or group chats. In addition, there are areas in the room for each faculty, so you can find other exchange students studying at your faculty, as well.

International Office will be hosting the event. The Student Union TYY will be also joining the event. The room can be entered and used also at other times, so feel free to chat with your peers in Wonder me after this event, as well!

Welcome Fair for international students

University Hill

In August, new exchange students and international master's students will arrive at the University of Turku and Welcome Fair event will be held on Friday 27 August as part of the orientation week. The event will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 in University Hill's central square. Due to the corona situation, we are organising the event outdoors, taking into account the safe distances and the necessary protective measures.

The purpose of the event is to acquaint international students with the various leisure and hobby opportunities offered by TYY's subject organisations and hobby associations. In addition to the organisations at the event, staff from different disciplines and the university can give international students valuable advice on next year’s studies and other issues.

Opening carnival

Welcome to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year!

Each autumn of the Student Union is begun with an opening carnival and university opening in the first week of the term. Different organisations and fun programme are present at the campus all day long. In the evening, TYY organises some activities to all students!

Sign up your organisation for the Opening Carnival!

Sign up your organisation for the Opening Carnival on Wednesday 8 September 12:00-14:00. 

The traditional Opening Carnival is held together with University of Turku on 8 September. The Opening Carnival introduces student organisations in Turku to new students and brings together students from all faculties! The carnival will also feature the University's and TYY’s services and partners. The event is held in front of Educarium and Publicum

The sign up form closes on Tuesday 31 August. After the sign up closes we will send additional information for all attendees.
