Student Union's Development Cooperation Wing has chosen two development cooperation projects that will get a donation worth of 0.7% of TYY's annual budget. This year the focus was on education and gender equality, especially projects that are suffering from the cuts in the Foreign Ministry’s financial support. Seven organisations applied for 0.7% donation and among them Development Cooperation Wing elected Shiffa ry and Aurora Borealis ry.
Shiffa ry supports women’s radio station in Mogadishu. The project was suffering from the lack of funding of the Foreign Ministry in 2016. With TYY's donation broken main transmitter can be fixed and overdue invoices will be paid. Aurora Borealis ry was established in 2015. Organisation supports two schools in Nepal. Another school was destroyed in the earthquake and the other one supports the post-primary school studies. With the help of TYY’s donation the school can be re-built and in the other school three to four students can continue their studies.
The total amount of donation this year is € 5224 and it is divided between the two organisations and paid in two parts. You can read more about the organisations on their websites below.
