TYY International Award is awarded to TYY’s organisation, which has included international students well into their activities and events and paid attention to, for example, communication in English. This year TYY International Award was awarded for the third time and the tradition is to continue in the coming years.
In 2018 TYY International Award was awarded to Hybridi ry. The Hybridi is an umbrella organisation for Asterisk ry, Delta ry, Digit ry, IVA ry, Nucleus ry, Pulterit ry, Synapsi ry and TYK ry, for the students who study at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in the University of Turku.
"This year, our organisation has invested a lot in involving international students, and the fact that receiving TYY International Award feels like real appreciation for the year's hard work," says Laura Forsman, vice president of Hybridi ry.
Why is it important to consider international students? Forsman and Enni Mannila, international correspondent for Hybridi ry, emphasise in particular equality and increasing the internationalisation opportunities of Finnish students. There are several English-language Master's Programmes of Science and Engineering and it is important that international students can also be part of the student culture. For example, the Finnish language already keeps many students outside of activities.
"In today's society, internationalisation is a must. When international students are involved in organisational activities, it also gives Finnish students the opportunity to speak different languages, create contacts and meet new people," says Mannila.
In addition to the TYY International Award received by Hybridi ry, TYY also awarded the honorary title to the student organisation of Turku School of Economics for a good international affiliation. Turun KY, TuKY is an association of economics students at Turku School of Economics.
