Student Union seeks student representatives in the University of Turku Collegiate Council for the term ending on 31 DEC 2017. The University of Turku Collegiate Council includes 30 members with personal deputy members. 10 of the members represent students.
The remit of the University Collegiate Council includes determining the number of members in the University Board, the term of the board and its members and the fees of the chair and members of the board; electing those members that do not represent the university staff and students in the University Board; to confirm the election of groupings of the university community as defined in Section 15(2) of the Universities Act in the board; discharging a board member from their duties on the basis of a board proposal; electing university auditors; confirming the financial statement and annual report of the university and deciding on the discharge of liability to the board members and the rector; deciding on a legal action for damages against a board member, rector or auditor; and deciding on the discharge of a board member from their duties as defined in Section 65(3) of the Universities Act.
Open positions include one member position and four deputy member positions. Search for student representatives will begin on Friday, 14 JUL 2017. One may stand as a candidate by filling an electronic form found at TYY website (www.tyy.fi) by Sunday, 13 AUG 2017 at 23.59. After the application period ends, the specialist for academic affairs will prepare a proposal on the elected to the Executive Board of the Student Union. The election of the new student representatives be made by the Board of the Student Union in August.
The following criteria will be observed in the election of student representatives in the University Collegiate Council: previous experience of promoting student interests in TYY organisations and the university administration, balanced representation of faculties and balanced gender distribution in the organ.
According to TYY’s regulation, people with the right to complete a lower university degree, higher university degree, licentiate or doctoral degree, specialist degree in medicine or degree in dental science in the University of Turku are eligible for application. The eligible applicants must also be registered as present in the university. People who have a full-time employment of at least twelve months at the university are not eligible to apply. The limit of full-time employment is considered 20 hours per week.
According to TYY's Regulation on the election of student representatives, the number of posts of student representatives in the administration is limited to three posts per person. The limitation does not apply to internal working groups of faculties or departments. This entry is intended to ensure balanced distribution of the posts of student representatives in the administration.
