Search Announcement: Student Representatives to the Board of the University of Turku

TYY seeks two representatives to the Board of the University of Turku for the term beginning on 1 JAN 2018 and ending on 31 DEC 2019. The University Board is the highest decision-making organ of the university. The University Collegiate Council decides for each term the number of members in the University Board and the duration of the term of the board and its members. For the forthcoming term of the board, form 1 Jan 2018 until 31 Dec 2021, the board includes two student representatives. The term of the Board is divided into two two-year terms for the part of student representatives.


As the highest executive organ of the university, the board decides on the main goals and strategy of the university, elects the rector, decides on the framework of financial resources of the university and prepares the annual financial statement, adopts the rules and regulations of the university, decides the organisational structure, suggest changes to the educational responsibilities and decides on the number of students to be admitted to the university. The search for student representatives will begin on Monday, 25 Sep 2017 and free-form applications with CV should be electronically submitted  to the Student Union at   (title: "Application: University Board”) by Monday, 23 Oct 2017 at 23.59. The Election Committee of the Student Union Council of the University of Turku will convene to consider the applications during week 43, and best applicants will be invited for interview, organised during week 44. The Election Committee will make a proposal for the Student Union Council based on applications and interviews, and the council will elect new student representatives to the University Board in its meeting on 22 Nov 2017.

In the election of student representatives, attention will be paid, for example, on previous experience in the administration of higher education institutions, motivation and commitment to the task, as well as on initiative and performance capabilities and the knowledge of finances of the University of Turku. Attention will also be paid on the balanced gender distribution in the organ. Regular reporting for the Student Union is required from the student representatives.

Good spoken and written skills in Finnish are required from all applicants (native language or level B).

According to TYY’s regulation, people with the right to complete a lower university degree, higher university degree, licentiate or doctoral degree, specialist degree in medicine or degree in dental science in the University of Turku, are eligible for application. The eligible applicants must also be registered as present in the university.  People who have a full-time employment of at least twelve months at the university are not eligible to apply. The limit of full-time employment is considered to be 30 hours per week.

According to TYY's Regulation on the election of student representatives, the number of posts of student representatives in the administration is limited to three posts per person. The limitation does not apply to internal working groups of faculties or departments. This entry is intended to ensure balanced distribution of the posts of student representatives in the administration.
