Search Announcement for two posts of student representatives in the Board of the University of Turku for the term beginning on 1 Jan 2016 and ending on 31 Dec 2017
The University Board is the highest decision-making organ of the university. The University Collegiate Council decides for each term the number of members in the University Board and the duration of the term of the board and its members. For the forthcoming term of the board, form 1 Jan 2016 until 31 Dec 2017, the board includes two student representatives, and the term is divided into two two-year terms for their part.
As the highest executive organ of the university, the remit of the board includes determining the appropriate organisation, quality and scope of the university operations in the framework of the financial resources of the university, adopting the university regulations, electing the rector, being accountable for the management and use of university assets and deciding on the number of students to be admitted to the university. In the election of student representatives, attention will be paid, for example, on previous experience in the administration of higher education institutions, motivation and commitment to the task, as well as on initiative and performance capabilities and the knowledge of university finances. Attention will also be paid on the balanced gender distribution in the organ. Regular reporting for the Student Union is required from the student representatives.
According to TYY’s regulation, people with the right to complete a lower university degree, higher university degree, licentiate or doctoral degree, specialist degree in medicine or degree in dental science in the University of Turku, are eligible for application. The eligible applicants must also be registered as present in the university. People who have a full-time employment of at least twelve months at the university are not eligible to apply. The limit of full-time employment is considered 30 hours per week.
The search for student representatives will begin on Monday, 21 Sep 2015 and free-form applications with CV should be submitted by email to the Student Union at firstname.lastname@example.org (title: "Application: University Board”) by Sunday, 18 Oct 2015 at 23.59.
The Election Committee of the Student Union Council of the University of Turku will convene to discuss the applications during week 43, and best applicants will be invited for interview, organised during week 44. The Election Committee will make a proposal for the Student Union Council based on applications and interviews, and the council will elect new student representatives to the University Board in its meeting on 25 Nov 2015.
According to TYY's Regulation on the election of student representatives, the number of posts of student representatives in the administration is limited to three posts per person. The limitation does not apply to internal working groups of faculties or departments. This entry is intended to ensure balanced distribution of the posts of student representatives in the administration.
