Group 40,000 is a common voice of the higher education students for influencing the politics in the City of Turku

As an organisation, Student Union TYY is part of the Group 40,000, a network of higher education students in Turku, whose purpose is to promote issues important to students in the municipal decision-making of Turku. The group includes TYY, Åbo Akademi Student Union, Student Union of Turku University of Applied Sciences TUO, Student Union Novium at the University of Applied Sciences Novia, The Student Union of Diaconia UAS - O'Diako and The Student Union of Humak University of Applied Sciences HUMAKO. It represents circa 40,000 higher education students.

Group 40,000 has raised to the public debate themes important for students, such as youth employment, housing situation in Turku and bicycle and walking roads. In 2016, Group 40,000 will continue its work by conducting a survey for all higher education students in Turku concerning a range of issues within municipal decision-making. In addition the Group will prepare for the upcoming municipal elections that will be held in spring 2021.
