Every exchange student must obtain a personal Finnish Identity Code (’henkilötunnus’ in Finnish).
This can be done at the Local Register Office (‘maistraatti’ in Finnish) by booking an appointment in advance. The make the process easier, the staff of the Register Office are coming to the campus to register students as foreigners and to issue a Finnish Identity Code to everyone.
The folks from the Register Office are coming to the Student Centre during the following dates and hours:
- Tuesday 29 August 2017 10 am - 12 pm & 1 pm – 3 pm
- Wednesday 30 August 2017 between 10 am – 12 pm & 1 pm - 3 pm
Please come to the Student Centre during either of the days to obtain the Finnish Identity Code and to have yourself registered as a foreigner in Finland. Please see the enclosed registration form (the XTU-document) and fill it in before you come (ask your tutor to help you if need be).
Take with you the following documents:
- your passport
- your residence permit card if you are a non-EU citizen
- your UTU registration certificate (you’ll get it when registering to UTU)
- your rental agreement (your address in Finland)
- a pre-filled registration form (sent by UTU via e-mail)
If you cannot come during either of the days or need to obtain the code earlier than this, please book an appointment in advance together with your tutor and visit the Local Register Office in the city centre.
NB! Non-EU residents: even though you would have obtained a Finnish Identity Code during your residence permit application process, you’ll still need to be registered as a foreigner and therefore come either for the registration sessions on campus or visit the Local Register Office.
NB2! If you going to study in Pori, you’ll need to obtain the identity code from the Local Register Office in Pori.
We will recap & explain all of this during the orientation as well!
