University of Turku Collegial Body seeks 10 student members and 10 deputy members for a two-year term beginning 1 April 2010

In selecting student members, previous student representative work experience in higher education administration, gender and the range of faculty representatives will be taken into account.

TYY will be organising a training seminar on the jobs and activities of the university collegiate body for all those interested on 25 February at 16.15 in Turku-sali. 

You can become a candidate by filling out an application. The application and free-form letter of motivation must be submitted to tyy-koposihteeri@utu.fi by 24.00, Friday, 12 March 2010. The Student Union Council will make selections at its meeting on 24 March 2010.

The University of Turku collegiate body is made up of 30 members and their deputy members. 10 are student members, having a term of two years.

Under the TYY Regulations, students eligible for application are those who have the right to complete a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Licentiate or Doctoral degree, specialist medical studies or specialist dentistry studies at the University of Turku. Furthermore, students are required to have been registered as attending at the University of Turku in order to be eligible. An applicant is eligible only in the department at which he/she has primarily registered with, for the academic year, for the completion of a degree. Those who have had a full-time working relationship with the University of Turku for at least six months are not eligible to apply. For this position, 20 hours of work is considered full-time.

The job of the University of Turku collegiate body includes: deciding on the number of University Board members; deciding on the term of office of the Board and its members; deciding on the compensation paid to the chair and members of the Board; selecting Board members outside the sphere of university staff and students; confirming the selection of university community groups, under the Universities Act § 15 subsection 2, as members of the Board; releasing a Board member from his/her duties under proposal of the Board; selecting university auditors; confirming the financial statement and annual report of the university; decisions on granting members and the Rector release from responsibility; decisions on increasing action for damages against a Board member, the Rector and auditor; decisions on releasing a Board member from his/her duties under the Universities Act § 65 subsection 3.
