Faculty boards are fundamental bodies of the academic affairs of students. They are the highest decision-making organ of the faculties (incl. Turku School of Economics). In selecting student members, previous student representative work experience in higher education administration will be taken into account.

TYY will be organising a training seminar on the jobs and activities of the faculties for all those interested on 25 February at 16.15 in Turku-sali.

You can become a candidate by filling out an application. The application and free-form letter of motivation must be submitted to tyy-koposihteeri@utu.fi by 24.00, Friday, 12 March 2010. The TYY Executive Board will make selections at its meeting on 25 March 2010. A selection committee, appointed by the Student Union Council, will present a well-founded proposal of applicants if there are more applicants than board seats. In addition, students from the subject or faculty associations that represent the faculty or department in question will be asked to give a statement on the applicants.

The job of the faculty boards includes: developing faculty teaching and research; giving proposals for the operational and financial plan and the annual budget; deciding on the distribution of funds granted to the faculty; approving the curriculum; approving dissertations and Licentiate research; granting dissertation defense approvals; making proposals on the annual number of new students to be admitted to the faculty; deciding on admission criteria. One third of faculty board members are students.

Under the TYY Regulations, students eligible for application are those who have the right to complete a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Licentiate or Doctoral degree, specialist medical studies or specialist dentistry studies at the University of Turku. Furthermore, students are required to have been registered as attending at the University of Turku in order to be eligible. An applicant is eligible only in the faculty to which he/she belongs. Those who have had a full-time working relationship with the University of Turku for at least six months are not eligible to apply. For this position, 20 hours of work is considered full-time.
