Become a member of a TYY Committee

The Student Union of the University of Turku is searching for TYY Committee members for the year 2010

There are seven committees in the Student Union of the University of Turku: TYY Committee on Sub-Organisations, TYY Committee on Student Affairs, TYY Committee on Development Cooperation, TYY Committee on International Affairs, TYY Committee on Cultural Issues, TYY Student Cafeteria Committee and TYY Committee on Environmental Issues. Each committee acts a link between the members of TYY, the Student Union Council, the Executive Board and TYY staff members.

The Student Union Council will select a committee chair and 6 to 10 committee members for the calendar year. At least one of the committee members must be a Student Union Council member or deputy member.

Applications as a committee chair or member must be submitted to the TYY Service Desk (Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku) or by e-mail tyy-kanslia@utu.fi no later than Monday, 30 November by 12.00. The application form is available on TYY website.

The Student Union Council will select committee members at its meeting on Wednesday, 9 December at 18.15.

A training for the members and chairs of all committees is held on 10 December in Turku-sali (meeting room). The training for chairs starts at 16.00 and the training for members at 18.00.

TYY Committee on Sub-Organisations
The responsibilities of the TYY Committee on Sub-Organisations include maintaining active contact with the sub-organisations, linking them with TYY administration through advising, distributing information to the organisations and simply being available. Each organisation and association has its own contact person within the Committee.

TYY Committee on Student Affairs
The TYY Committee on Student Affairs promotes the interests of students in the policies of education, social, well-being and equality. In its meetings, the Committee discusses topical matters concerning student interests, organizes open discussions and takes care of different student interest projects together with other Student Union actors.

TYY Committee on Development Cooperation
The TYY Committee on Development Cooperation helps make the world a better place with words and by action. The group’s most important jobs include the coordinating of TYY’s development cooperation project which supports the indigenous Wixarika people of Mexico, distributing information on development cooperation affairs and organising development cooperation themed events.

TYY Committee on International Affairs
The TYY Committee on International Affairs advances internationality, tolerance and multiculturalism at the University of Turku campus by organizing events, developing the position of informing in English and promoting the special student interests.

TYY Committee on Cultural Issues
The TYY Committee on Cultural Issues brings students who are interested in culture together and looks after the student traditions and culture by organizing events such as Aprillirock and the Culture Club. The Committee participates in Vappu traditions. With the European Capital of Culture coming up, the TYY Committee on Cultural Issues is getting prepared to organize an event for all students.

TYY Student Cafeteria Committee
The TYY Student Cafeteria Committee oversees the interests of diners in TYY-owned student cafeterias and cafés and represents the voice of the customer.

TYY Committee on Environmental Issues
The TYY Committee on Environmental Issues is a meeting place for all TYY members interested in environmental issues. During 2009 the Committee has organized for example interesting trips, a seminar and Bike Repair –day. The Committee has also made a statement about climate change by for example participating in the Big Ask campaign in Finland.
