TYY Committee on Cultural Issues

The TYY Committee on Cultural Issues brings students who are interested in culture together. The Committee works in cooperation with the TYY Executive Board member for student traditions and also participates in organising the Student Union’s annual events. The most significant of these events are Vappu, filling the streets of Turku with students, and the Vappu picnic.

The TYY Committee on Cultural Issues also organises some events of its own, like the band/artist competition Aprillirock, an entertaining debate evening called Turun Väittelyilta and the Culture Club.

New! Bandbank

The TYY Committee on Cultural Issues introduces the bandbank called Bändipankki. Bands/artists! If atleast one of your members is a student or teacher at the University of Turku, make yourselves a profile and get more gigs!
Are you looking for a performer at your party/wedding/what ever event? Find a band / an artist from Bändipankki!

Aprillirock

New bands and artists made up of Student Union members get to show their talent in the Aprillirock competition. The winner gets to perform for thousands of people at the Vappu picnic. In 2011 the event was organised for the third time. The winner of the 2011 Aprillirock-competition is Kailo. This year the audience voted for its favourite for the first time. The audience's choice was Kirahvi nimeltä tuike.

Turku Debate Evening

Finnish celebrities, politicians and scientists debate on three different questions concerning anything from current issues to pop-culture. The next Turku Debate Evening will be held on October 12th, 2011.

Culture Club

There’s an open stage for all art forms at the Culture Club. In 2010 the theme of the Culture Club was "Culture is dead!?" and the visitors got to revive culture by taking part in croquis drawing competition and writing romantic poetry. The next Culture Club will be held on November 17th, 2011.

Culture Passport and Turku 2011

TYY Committee on Cultural Issues encourages students to visit cultural events, museums etc. by introducing a Culture Passport. By collecting stamps in their passports students can "graduate" as Bachelor, Master, Doctor or Emeritus/Emerita of Culture. In 2011 Turku is the European Capital of Culture so this is a great year for getting to know with different forms of culture. More info (only in finnish) from the Culture Passport web page and Facebook. Information about student discounts for the Turku 2011 events.
